Compare and contrast living at home and in the dormitory. (Final)
I live in the dormitory. Before I went to university, home was where I live. When talking about home or dormitory, there are pros and cons for both. And I like to live in the dormitory more than at home. The differences between home and the dormitory are convenience, cost, comfort, freedom, and the attitude toward studying. First, it is more convenient to live at home than in the dormitory. This is because mom or dad can take care of all the things I need. I do not have to do them by myself. For example, the foods and the clothes. My mom is a housewife so I never worry about eating. But now, if I want to eat lunch or dinner, I have to go outside. And I worry about what I should eat a lot. At home, I got everything I need for studying or daily life by my mom. Now I have to solve them by myself. Under this kind of condition, the cost of living at home is lesser than that of in the dormitory. My mom cook every day so I needn't eat outside. On the other hand, I can save money at eating. That was the same that I didn't need to spend my own money at clothes or the articles for daily use. What is more, living at home is more comfortable because living in the dormitory, I need to care about other roommates whether my music or talking is too loud. I feel pressured in the dormitory because I am not familiar with roommates. Nevertheless, unlike living at home, I have much freedom living in the dormitory. At home, if I want to go outside, I had to tell my mom. And she always asked me what time will I be back. But now in the dormitory no one restricts me anymore. I can do anything at will. When it comes to study, for me, I study harder at home than in the dormitory. I think it is because Mom urged me to do that. I am the only one who urges me to study hard in the dormitory. On the other hand, I can have fun in the dormitory and without anyone controlling me. I studied every single day at home, but now I study only before the tests. I like to live in the dormitory mostly because I have much freedom in the dormitory. Although living at home is much better than living in the dormitory in many ways. I like the happy atmosphere in the dormitory.

Why did I choose my major? (final)
I am a student majoring in mechanical engineering. Why did I choose this majoy? There ar two reasons for me to make this decision:scores and a desire for studying in Taipei. As far as scores are concerned, the reason why I chose Mechanical Engineering as my major at Natioinal Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) was mainly becasue I did not do a good job in Basic Compentence Test (BCT), especially in the part of English test. Although I desired to enter one of the four famous national univeristies, NTU, NTHU, NCTU, or NCKU, my overall scores of BCT do not reach their minimum requirements. When I considered applying for other good universities, I found that they set the minimum English scores to be 12 while my scores were only 8. Knowing that most of the NTUST's departments do not set a limit for applicants (the exception is the Department of Information Engineering, which is my favor), I applied for the Department of Mechanical Engineering by estimating the possibilities for me to be admitted and was luckily accepted by the department finally. As far as my desire to study in Taipei. I have decided to study in Taipei in the future when I was in the first year of senior high. I always want to have more personal space because my parents are strict with me. I like modern cities better than countries because there are a lot of restaurants in modern cities. And I like to eat delicious food. In modern cities, I won’t stay home or school all day because there are many places for me to have fun. Those are why Taipei is the best choice for me. Although the major is not the one I like the most, I still found something I am interested. So I believe I chose the right major for my future.
